Philosophy:
A poet simply scribbles down the lines as they come to
him, in the moment in which he feels inspired to write.
Some of the lines are useless, but others are masterpieces.
Filmmakers on the other hand, are not afforded this liberty
due to the bureaucratic process of film production. In reality
a filmmaker may have to wait years to get an idea from his head
onto the big screen. Or worse, it may never get made.
In 2001 we were searching for a way to allow artists
who use film as their expressive medium, to gain
immediate access to their innermost creative forces
without having to go through the long process of writing
a screenplay, looking for financing, putting together
a crew, etc...
Two years and several pieces of work later, a manifesto was born.
Every piece of work that Tampico has done since then has fallen
within the parameters mapped out by the manifesto, and therefore
all are works of ShitArt.
The name ShitArt itself was a reaction to the pretentiousness
ever-present in debates about good and bad filmmaking. We just
want to make films now and discuss them later. We want to become
cinematic poets. Actually cinematic beat poets would be more
accurate. Something like stream of conscious filmmaking was
the goal. ShitArt is the result.
